My first independent recording session

CHAMBER CHOIR AND GRAND PIANO

I went to a church in Roermond to make a recording of the final rehearsal of a Chamber Choir, accompanied by a Grand Piano.

Preperation:

I made a checklist from what to bring:

  • Audio Interface
  • 4 Mics
  • 4 Mike-stands
  • Mike cables
  • Power extensioncord
  • LAP-top
  • Headphone

After setting up the Mics (2 in front of the Choir, and 2 inside the grand piano) we did a sound check. Unfortunately the choir sound was capturing to much the individual voices. I decided to turn the 2 choir mics 180 degrees and pointed them to the back of the church. This was actually a good decision because the sound improved enormously. Disadvantage is the acoustics of the church already brings along a great amount of reverb. This impacts the transparency of the sound and makes the lyrics more unclear.

Obviously this needs a lot of editing where I am working on now.

I will keep you updated on the result.
