Introducing myself and getting to know the institute.
As result of a few emails between me and the management I had an appointment with the CEO of the Wisseloord Academy. I was interested in the class analogue recording & mixing, but I had a lot of questions, like:
Are there more questions I could or should take;
Can I combine this study with a full time job;
How much study time per week is realistic;
It was a short but effective meeting, and I received a transparent answer when I made my ambition clear. The recording landscape changed substantially since the time I was more or less involved in the music industry. A lot of recordings and productions are nowadays done on a laptop, often by one person. Because of these changes I was advised also to take the module DAW. (Digital Audio Workstation).
This area is totally new for me. As conductor I made arrangements and compositions in Sibelius. DAW software in fact does the same what a mixing console in a studio does. Recording, (registering the sound), mixing (creating the balance between all recorded tracks) and editing, (adding effects, removing unwanted sounds). For DAW you use the Laptop or PC for all three aspects.
I followed the advice and enrolled for both modules. The journey to become a sound-engineer/producer has started.
