CUBASE 12 PROABLETON 11 LIVEPRO TOOLS 12 STUDIO

Hi all,

Jack here. Although I work in the financial sector, I have a passion for music as long as I remember. I moved away from corporate life, in my early thirties, when I studied wind band conducting at the conservatory from Maastricht. I made a living as conductor for about 10 years, but the government support for the art-sector decreased.  Orchestras were merging.  It became a struggle to earn a decent living, so I gradually moved back to insurance. I like my job. I have the pleasure of working with great knowledgeable and interesting people from different countries and cultures. I travel a lot.

But one day you wake up and realize you became 60 years old. Still 7 years to go before my professional retirement. It made me think about my future. Do I stay with my employer for another 7 years? Or maybe just 3 years and another 4 years as freelance consultant? Or do I want something totally different?  Becoming of age has advantages, you have to work less hours a week, so I can look for something next to my current job.

So I started in December 2022 at the Wisseloord Academy doing 2 programs:

DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) Beginners level

Here you learn working in DAW software, in my case Ableton and Pro-Tools.
In fact in DAW software you can do everything from recording to mastering. It gives the opportunity to work in midi with sounds and instruments provided by Ableton or Pro-Tools but also with sample packages from Third party providers, Also from a investment perspective DAW software and third parties providers offer a lot of plug-inns, imitating Hard-ware like compressors, EQ, reverb etc. , but much more cost efficient.

Analogue Recording and Mixing Intermediate level

This is focusing on making recordings and mixing. For the recording you can use DAW software, as well as a mixing console. Subjects are really related to recording and mixing on an analogue way, so using the mixing console and real hardware for the effects. Subjects are MIC choice, MIC placement, Mixing, Signal flow, Patching etc.

The 2 programs ended June 2023, I got my certificates but also realized I gained a lot of skills but I was not on the level to work independently with sufficient quality.

I enrolled again at the Wisseloord Academy for the schoolyear 2023/2024, again for the same to programs but on advanced level.
Next to DAW and Analogue Recording and Mixing, I will do a third program:

Audio Engineering

This program offers tailormade individual classes related to recording and mixing and also offers being involved in 10 recording sessions, giving you practical experience.

Wisseloord Academy

The biggest advantage of this institute, it is not only a school but it is actually a studio. As Wisseloord Studio is world-wide recognized as on of the best you can imagine the quality of the Teachers , Lessons and Equipment. With all students it becomes a community, your are always welcome there and can interact with fellow students, teachers and management.

My Blog

I will keep a blog where I will keep you posted on the lessons at Wisseloord, other courses I follow, as well of other relevant developments.
